NaNoWriMo Week 3 Update

Word Count Goal for Today: 44,327 Actual Word Count: 43,491 I had lunch with fellow blogger, gay erotica writer, and WriMo Dave X Robb the other day, and we agreed that one major benefit of the annual NaNoWriMo experience is that a thousand words feels easy. So, I'm not worried about the words I've got to catch up today. Week 2 Outcomes: Last week, I tackled my pigeon novel, Homing, and my winged friends continue to flap around in my head. I didn't complete many of Minal's Blueprint Your...

How To Be A WriMo Vlogger: Interview With Kat O'Keeffe

I met the prolific and fabulous vlogger and NaNoWriMo novelist Kat O'Keeffe at last year's Night of Writing Dangerously, and I was a little starstruck. Can you blame me? With weekly videos attracting 30-, 40-, and sometimes 100,000 viewers, she's a YouTube sensation and an awesome member of the NaNoWriMo community. Kat, AKA Katytastic, started vlogging in 2011 as a way to track her NaNoWriMo progress that year. "I basically just rambled about my word count for a few minutes a day, but then ...

This week, I'm reaching my 2333-word daily goal in under two hours, and I like what I'm writing. The characters have deepened. New crises and predicaments have risen. I'll reach today's word-count goal, no problem. Week 1 Plan: In week 1, I wanted to write new material for The Grass In California, my sweeping, 4-decade, state...

Don't Call It NaNoWrEEMo: Interview With Sushi Must Write

Meet WriMo novelist and blogger, Sushi Must Write, who’s tackling NaNoWriMo for the 13th time this year. Sushi also started the unofficial NaNoWriMo wiki page in 2010. “I had graduated from college the previous year and didn't really have any exciting job prospects. I had been thinking for a while that all this stuff in the NaNo community—the inside jokes, the forum threads, the whimsy—needed a place where anyone could read it and well, get the NaNo community.” The Sexy Grammarian caug...

Fall Creativity Update

I’ve accomplished a lot this year, creatively speaking. I set lofty goals with my 2014 creative plans, and though I didn’t reach every one, I’ve managed to make progress on five novel projects this year. My writing group finished reading, Turning Out, my first novel, and pushed me to drop a casual inquiry note to the editor who's been sitting on it since January. She responded with excellent news: I'm in the "not sure yet" pile. Meanwhile, you can now read Chapter 21 of Turning Out because ...
